Israel Alvarez

Chef Instructor – Get Cooking

Israel studied the culinary arts at the Centro Universitario de Artes Culinarias in his hometown, Mexico City.  He completed his 2-year Diploma in International Cuisine then headed for Spain, where he continued his culinary education at the Centro de Estudios Hosteleros A Coruña.  His courses covered a diverse range of subjects from butchery to decorative cuisine, and led him to his first restaurant placement at Pablo Gallego Restaurant in A Coruña.  Pablo Gallego specializes in traditional Galician cuisine and is rated one of the top ten restaurants in A Coruña.

Israel then headed home to Mexico, where he worked his way up the culinary ladder to the coveted position of Sous Chef at Pujol in Mexico City, currently rated 17th amongst the top 50 restaurants in the world.  But Israel’s personal life then brought him to Canada and Edmonton, where his most recent restaurant placement was as Chef de Partie at Sage Restaurant at the River Cree.  Israel has been teaching Mexican classes at Get Cooking since September 2013.
